The Preferences Dialog box allows you to configure the frequency and method of obtaining weather updates and controls the units used in the Distance Panel.

Auto Weather Updates
If this box is checked, Time Palette will update the weather whenever the Info Panel is opened. This will open a connection to the internet and dial out if necessary.

Update Every X Minutes
If this box is checked, weather information will be continuously updated at the interval specified. Each time weather data is needed, Time Palette will open a connection to the internet and dial out if necessary.

Use FTP for Weather Data Transfer
Weather data is normally retrieved using the HTTP protocol (the same method used by browsers to view web pages). The NOAA weather service also maintains an FTP server which can be used as a backup. As FTP is slower, it is suggested that you only use this if the normal server is not responding.

Use kilometers in Distance Panel
By default, distances in the Distance Panel are shown in miles. Checking this box will display such distances in kilometers.
